Volunteer in the Okanagan

Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Okanagan and the ReStore is a rich
and meaningful experience. It’s a perfect opportunity to connect with others
who share similar values and to give back to the community in a way that
directly impacts local families.

Volunteers are the life of our organization.  Together they have contributed
their time, talents and enthusiasm for approximately 30, 000 hours every year.

I always knew that I would do some type of volunteer work when I retired.  I didn’t know what that would be but wanted it to be something different from my regular job.  I attended a career fair and gathered information from a few organizations and  Habitat was the first to contact me so thought I would give it a go.  I have enjoyed helping people to find what they are looking for and interacting with them.  Recently I was assisting an elderly couple and at the end she looked at my name tag and said, ‘You’re a volunteer!’  ‘Yes’ I said and she opened her arms and gave me a big hug.  I have also met a couple of the families assisted by Habitat and it is very heart warming to hear how having a stable home has improved the lives of them and their families.  I love that the building of homes is ongoing from one project to the next – no down time – and from varying communities within the Okanagan.  That is why I am a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
